A few years ago, the term “AI adoption” meant a handful of enthusiastic engineers using one of the available chatbots, venting about the code it produced, and laughing at the notion that we would get to a point where AI could be so impactful in our line of work. Fast forward to today, and the story is quite different. AI is now ingrained in our way of working, and having a governed practice, with company-wide standards and tooling built into the workflow, isn’t a nice-to-have anymore. It’s table stakes. In this talk, I’ll cover how we approached our AI transformation: why it stalled when left to its own devices, what we tried and abandoned along the way, and what we’d tell ourselves if we were starting over today.
